Reflection and Meditation Entering the New Year

Here is your sign to take a deep breath, decompress, and process. You have found your way here, as you are. Welcome to 2019, my love. How was 2018 for you? Transformative? Fun? Painful? Filled with love? This is your invitation to take a step back, disengage from the world for a moment, and tune in to what is going on with you. You have just crossed a threshold, even if today is just another day. It’s a day filled with the renewal of hope, of reflection, and an opportunity to honor who you are and what you’ve experienced and created. You have earned it. Are you ready?

Step one

Breathe, breathe, breathe. Take a deep breath — in for three, out for five. Now do it again, because you deserve it. In order to get in tune with your headspace, you have to tell your body you are safe and to not be alarmed, and biologically speaking the quickest way to do that is with your breath. Soothe yourself and close your eyes, or find a gaze that is comfortable. Feel into your senses and your body… it’s nice to be here, huh?

Step Two

Feel your feet firmly planted on the ground, feel your body become a bit heavier, a bit more relaxed. Start to completely drop into your body, move around for a second in a way that feels good. Let your thoughts go from your to-do list to the deeper thoughts that may have come up for you. Depression and anxiety are heightened around the holidays, and after when you may have put really high expectations on yourself or asked for things that are rooted in lack — lack of self-esteem, or resources, or insight. Let’s drop the resolutions and embrace honoring.

Now is the time to let go of doubt and fear, and remind yourself of who you are and what you are here to do. Let go of the anxiety of not being good enough, not doing enough, or not measuring up to some made up expectation. You’re being divinely guided – heal up, and dance in your unique sacred story.

Step Three

Get out a pen and paper and write down all of the thresholds you’ve crossed this year. From moving, to trying a class for the first time, to breaking up, to standing up for yourself — all your initiations or the firs time you’ve done something, all the transformation and changes that went down, all the decisions you’ve made that reset the course of your life. When you see it all on paper, you’ll be amazed at yourself.

Step Four

Spend some time in awe. This is a very sacred time that provides an opportunity to reflect on the mysteries of life. What are your values? What, who, and how do you love? What do you have to do in this present moment to immerse yourself in the awe of daily living?

You are here. Out of the 7 billion or more people on this Earth, you are you, and surrounded by the souls around you, and in the time and space you’re in. Is that not magic? There are no accidents, so reflect deeply on all that surrounds you, and see how these threads add to the tapestry of your life.

Step Five

Return to your breath, take one last deep one, hold it, and release. You are ready to go forth into this new year with perspective, a sense of calm and purpose, and a heightened awareness of your cosmic life. Your life is magic. You are the magic. Remember?

Sending you big love and encouragement on your journey this year.

Godspeed, my love.
