Honor the Harvest Moon With Me
Happy harvest moon, my sweet loves. The harvest moon is the moon in September, lovingly named by Native Americans.
This full moon is in Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, the warrior… and the baby. While Aries is fierce and strong, they also have the tendency to be very focused on the self. This can lead to impulsive emotional reactions if we don’t take notes from the Sun in Libra and channel some diplomacy.
Own this fiery, Aries moon by focusing on you and reflecting on all things that hold you back. The full moon marks the ending of a cycle. It is about shedding, clearing, and making room for the new things you wish to replace. With Mabon happening just a few days before, and having the sun in Libra, shedding and finding balance is at the forefront. Mars and Uranus have your back to help you embody that Aries fearlessness to look at your fears, insecurities, and wounds. Start tonight by asking yourself — what do I truly want? And take a good hard look at the fear that is standing in your way.
Aries is the warrior spirit because they can conquer anything. Tonight, embrace that pioneering, courageous heart. The first step is awareness. Are you ready?
Here are some tools you can use tonight:
Tarot Card: Strength
How do you react when you are confronted with frustration? It’s easy to become hot headed. When the Strength card shows up, you are being called to challenge that. Gaze into this card. Look at the demeanor of the woman taming the lion, she is controlling the situation with love, patience, and respect. Her sense of self is strong, and that’s what gives her the ability to influence others.

Stone: Red Jasper
This stone is known to help you be daring. It helps you to embrace new ways, opportunities, and processes that serve you. It also helps with vitality, optimism, and bravery.
Essential Oil: Peppermint or Eucalyptus
Aries rules the head and the eyes, so don’t be surprised if you have a headache tonight. These oils soothe and clear out any tension and bring an inner peace to fiery Aries.
I chose this herb for tonight because Damiana is a fiercely feminine heart opening herb. She allows you to get out of your own experience, something Aries energy is very prone to, and help you find what you want to fight for beyond yourself, and in the most loving and empowered way. Sit with her, drink her, burn her, whatever works for you.
Song: Flame Sky by Santana
Let this song flow through you as you process your emotions and face your fears. Let is serve as a reminder that you are here and that there is something bigger than you, always. You can’t and shouldn’t do it all — but you can do your part.
Color — Red
Let your candle, paper, or outfit reflect the color red. The color of passion, the root chakra, of primal, raw, life-force energy.
Environment and Pose
Try to go outside tonight. Have an outdoor fire if you can, or even a candle. Be in the rays of the moonlight and soak it up. Dance if you can, or walk, or wander. Be out and in moving meditation.
Here’s my ritual for tonight:
Get sensual. Put on a beautiful scent, wear something that feels nice on your skin, put on your music, get in a comfortable position, make a nourishing cup of tea. Unwind. Breathe. Feel into it. You’re here, alive, present, and about to make some magic happen for yourself. Welcome.
Write. Think. Process. This is making it real.
What are you so scared of?
What would you do if you weren’t afraid?
What is the story you’re telling yourself that makes you not do what you want to do?
Think about it. Remember it. Write it out. Be real.
Now check in with yourself — is that fear real or based off of what could happen? Am I using fear as a red light, or transforming it into a yellow by allowing discernment? Take a breath and check in. Look at what you wrote. Quite the story you’ve written, huh?
Burn it up, baby. Burn away the bullshit. Because that’s what a lot of stories we tell ourselves are — complete and utter bullshit. Let this fiery full moon bear witness to the flame you sparked consuming what no longer serves you. Replace your fake, fortune-telling stories with wonder and curiosity instead. Know that you are held.
Make tonight beautiful, make it yours. This is your night. Rewrite, reclaim, be ready to be reborn. There’s a reason the word lunatic has the word “luna” in it — it comes from the full moon.Legend says that the full moon makes us all crazy. I say it sheds light on our fears and desires — which I guess is its own form of craziness. Let it out, and be ready to step into your power and truth.
Moon cycles are opportunities. Harness this power to do the work that you’d need to do anyway, but now you are held and supported and turning it into ritual and magic. I love using this energy to gain self-awareness, strength, and sheer determination and clarity.
Happy full moon my loves — make it magical. I’ll be hosting a small ceremony in Portland, Oregon — and as always, it’s free. If you can’t make it, feel free to share your experiences, truth, and perspectives by commenting below or shooting me an email and I may feature it in the next e-zine — firstname.lastname@example.org.
